New York September 20 Under cover of darkness the America the era’s most powerful airplane was loaded on the steamship Mauretania and sent across the Atlantic to be used by the British government for war service. Built for a trans Atlantic flight it would have been piloted by Lt John C Porte. The aircraft and two others from a renowned firm were shipped in a secret operation with their purchaser and consignee kept confidential. The plane tested at Hammondsport last summer carried ten men and about 2000 pounds of gasoline. Rodman Wanamaker originally funded the project and today offered the services of aviators to the English government with a warning that they would be welcomed if they pressed in Canada or England.
