Rainbow Yacht Sails Amid Pirate Scare on Pacific Coast
Palmyra, loved by John Thuratus and Van Buren Hutger, confronts a stowaway pirate, Ponape Burke, aboard the Rainbow off California. Burke, a known opium smuggler, faces exposure as Palmyra secretly aids a cold, tattooed brown native prisoner below deck. The scene unfolds with tense intrigue as Burke showcases the boyish pirate persona and Palmyra weighs fear against compassion aboard the troubled voyage.
