Representative Samuel A. Witherspoon of Mississippi's fifth district, veteran eight-term lawmaker and member of the moral affairs committee, died at his Meridian home after a brief illness. Born May 4, 1855 in Lowndes County, he studied at the University of Mississippi, practiced law, and served in both state and national legislatures. He married Miss Sue May of Versailles in 1886. he is survived by two daughters and a son. Funeral plans have not been announced.
