Growth of Atlanta Young Men's Library to Carnegie Era

The piece recounts the Young Men's Library association on Broad Street evolving through lectures and fundraising, noting board members and early leaders, the carpet purchase that spurred community pride, and the 1899 contract with the city and Carnegie endowment of 145 000 dollars for a building. It tracks relocations to Marietta street and DeKalb, the 32 year tenure, and the shift to a free public Carnegie library. It lists growth: staff from 5 to 45, borrowers 57 802, 170 000 volumes, and 7 000 000 home loans over 25 years with branches expanding citywide.
