Decision Today On Removing Tracks Petition Action
The Gear and Power Company seeks to abandon service on four streetcar lines with a city committee meeting at 1 a.m. to decide. The firm argues that new cars on alternate routes will cover lost service and that maintenance costs exceed revenue. Lines affected include Till Street, Fraser Street, Ashby Street, and segments of Woodward Avenue and Cherokee Avenue. Proposals include double-tracking and rerouting via Fair, Hill, and Hunter streets to offset closures.
