Thousands from across the state travel to Atlanta to enjoy a grand carnival week. Festivities begin today with a gala event tonight crowning the carnival queen in Coro nation, promising a colorful sequence of performances and community celebrations.
Ex-Governor and Mrs. J. M. Brown lead the Marietta delegation to the Georgia Harvest Festival opening day. Activities include a 3 pm Hetter Daniel show at Taft hall Auditorium Armory, a 2 pm Carnival City on Cone street with tents and concessions, 8 pm Military band concerts near Grady monument, 7:20 pm doors open for queen’s coronation, vaudeville acts and a 20-piece orchestra, then the coronation ball.
Crowds fill downtown streets hotels and cafes as Georgia Harvest Festival begins. Coronation of Regina Rambo as carnival queen tonight at Auditorium Armory with Forrest Adair named carnival king. Miss Rambo thanks supporters noting statewide backing and cotton workers aided her campaign.
White House says Winnetka assistant postmaster George Burkitt was removed without presidential authority after criticizing President Wilson's engagement. Burkitt appealed to the Post Office Department, claiming no formal charges or opportunity to reply existed. Officials cite civil service rules and say remarks were casual and not disrespectful.

Rev Henry Alford Porter of Dallas Texas was unanimously elected pastor of the Second Baptist church in Atlanta to succeed Dr John E L White who resigned months ago The selection followed a unanimous report from twenty five prominent members and is expected to be accepted Porter a Nova Scotia native about 40 has led several notable churches including White Temple in Oklahoma City Walnut Street Lowryville and Gagan Avenue in Dallas His arrival is welcomed by Georgia and southern congregations.
Mark Grant Blankinship, incarcerated for life for conspiracy to murder, failed to appear at a 5 PM hearing. Described as 46 years old, 6 ft 6 in, slender build, blue eyes, brown hair, fair complexion. Authorities issued a lookout and noted his transfer from Tennessee to Alabama, with no verified escape account.
