Belfield North Carolina November. Alan Gladys Hollister a school teacher and three of her pupils were burned to death today in a prairie fire that engulfed a schoolhouse near Belfield. Three other children likely fatally burned. All victims aged 6 to 12. The blaze started by a threshing outfit. As the fire spread the teacher and twenty two pupils ran toward a plowed field. The crowd split. four remained with the teacher while others fled in the opposite direction. Some bodies were burned beyond recognition found near the plowed ground. Tonight the schoolhouse remains unarmed.
