Atlanta readies for Rear Admiral Schley with a citywide parade, decorations, and public honors. A joint legislative session will honor him, while the mayor proclaims Schley Day and coordinates a morning parade through a color-filled route.

Washington November 2 Active steps were set in motion to raise funds to buy a home for Rear Admiral Schley. Numerous offers to contribute have already been received by supporters.
The national democratic executive committee meets in Chicago November 20 for a business session and a leaders conference. William J. Bryan will attend with senators and representatives en route to Washington and eastern and southern Democrats are to gather. London dispatch dated Tuesday reports Lieutenant Colonel Carleton's force cut off at Farquhar's farm. The column retreated to the Drakensburg spurs where Carleton charged the heights with bayonet, held position until ammunition ran out, and then surrendered. About two hundred were killed or wounded in the engagement.

London reports from Governor Natal Sir Frances Hely-Hutchinson that communications with Ladysmith have been interrupted since 2:30 p m. The War Office says this does not confirm a complete investment of Ladysmith or the capture of Colenso.
News from November 2 reports a British warship in Delagoa Bay firing on a ship attempting to enter the harbor without displaying a flag. The ship was identified as British, raising questions about Britain’s policing rights in a Portuguese port.
