Life Sentence Given Ack Hale in 1907 Murder Case
Bristol May 29 A jury in the case of Ack Hale charged with murder in the first degree after deliberation of eighteen hours returned a verdict of murder in the first degree with a recommendation to mercy. Hale received a life sentence as death was not mandatory. The tragedy occurred at East Hil cemetery in Thielty on May 27 1907 when the girl Tale D Davis went there with Hale. She later died and Hale claimed it was suicide with his pistol. Hale was arrested and guarded to prevent lynching. The girl had been to marry JB McRoberts of Georgia three days after Muster Sunday. The state contends Hale assaulted and murdered her to hide the crime. Hale’s brother Ack Hale was recently sentenced to twenty years for the murder of Irby Davie, with other relatives involved in separate indictments.
