Railroads announce a two thirds consensus to replace milenze and demurrage with a straight per diem for freight cars. The new system starts July and is expected to improve freight handling and reduce traffic stringency. Atlanta and Southern lines forecast better service and schedules.
A barbecu e at Grant park hosted by the board of park commissioners and city officials featured Mayor Mims Colonel Moyers and Captain Howell. In Selma Alabama May 2, three men Ed Frith Ed H Cawthon and Tom Nichols faced a preliminary murder trial for the killing of Bill Dockery a Negro worker at Estelle cotton mills near the city. After three days before Justice Lloyd the court adjourned at 9 tonight. Cawthon and Nichols were jailed without bond awaiting grand jury action while Frith was bound over in 5000.
The thirteenth annual commencement exercises at the state agricultural and mechanical college in Raleigh end with a class of fourteen graduates. James N. Parker wins first honor, R. E. Snowden second. star cadets include R. E. Snowden R. B. Cochran and W. C. Boseman. Enrollment reaches 369 from eight states and 82 counties.
