Hisses and cheers mark opening of Confederate reunion in Chattanooga
A crowd filled Chattanooga Tennessee on May 27 for the twenty third annual United Confederate Veterans reunion. Governor Ben W Hooper faced hisses and cheers during his welcome address as thousands arrived for parades and social events. Veterans, sponsors and matrons of honor in filmy gowns rode in autos along Broad Street while veterans and the public watched from stands. General Bennett H Young and Hooper reviewed the parade as thousands waved and tossed flowers. Business sessions named Willam W Old Sr of Norfolk as commander of the Sons of Veterans. The event featured eloquent addresses by generals and governors, including Mrs Virginia F Boyle poet laureate and Mrs H B Bryan of Memphis. The gathering also discussed plans for a Get tysburg semicentennial celebration and included a reception tonight hosted by the United Daughters of the Confederacy.

Good Roads as Drive for New Georgia Counties
In Georgia, lawmakers hear that split counties could unlock improved roads. Metter in Bulloch near Emanuel and Tattnall counties is cited as lacking a first class road within ten miles. Proponents argue creating Candler county would allow Metter’s roads to connect with better routes to county seats, spurring better road work across three counties.
