Recorder Broyles Is Again Upheld In Prohibition Case
Recorder Nash R. Broyles was upheld in imposing double sentences on violators of prohibition laws. Judge W D of the appellate court overruled a certiorari from W G Stradley while signaling points to be settled by the higher courts. Attorney Madison Bell for Stradley will pursue the case to the supreme and federal courts if needed. Stradley, once in the whisky trade, was arrested February by Detectives Doyal and Brannan for whisky delivered via a stool pigeon. Stradley was given thirty days in jail and a $500 fine. Julia Ward Howe, 90, celebrated her birthday in Boston with children and grandchildren including Maud Howe Elliott from Messina.
