Firemen May Escape Dismissal By Board
Firemen may avoid dismissal after a board meeting discussed a rule where any fireman who endorses another’s note could forfeit his position. Kerlin, dismissed for unbecoming conduct, said he lent money to several firemen who endorsed loans, and he offered to name endorsers and borrowers. Mayor Woodward noted the resolution may apply to internal and external dealings, while confirming the practice requires action though not all offenders can be dismissed. The Constitution reported R H Pressly, a top assistant chief and chief candidate, was among Kerlin’s borrowers, though the article misprinted a name as Preasiy.
