Monopoly railways under US control urged by Mellen
Washington May 21 Charles S Mellen former New Haven president urged an absolute government regulated monopoly of transportation to solve the railroad problem. He testified Roosevelt opposed Morse steamship control and that consolidation could improve service and lower rates though he warned it must be government regulated. He discussed Rhode Island trolley deals, campaign contributions, and his retirement from the New Haven amid criticism.
