Eviction Fight Over 287 Decatur Street Unfolds

A deputy served a writ of eviction on Mary J. Yancey at 287 Decatur Street just after 8 am. Yancey and sister Annie Sullivan resisted briefly but obeyed as furniture was moved to the street. J H Ewing, sales manager for Edwin P Angsley’s agency, testified that a court sold the property to multiple buyers and that he and associates asserted possession after rents were directed to them. He denied responsibility for the dispossession and claimed the tearing down of the house began Monday.
