Barclay Memorial Home for Wayward Girls Expands
The Barclay Memorial Association’s home near Maxwell Station, two miles from Hapeville, rapidly fills its 60 acre site with 25 inmates and two more expected. Rooms are full, extra cottages are becoming sleeping quarters, and plans aim for larger, nearer-city quarters, with a laundry and factory hoped to aid self-support. Inmates come from Rome, Columbus, Jasper, Jeffersonville, Cartersville and Atlanta, aged 12 to 22, with sentences from one to five years and treated uniformly under nonsectarian care.
