Ashes of Buddha Found Near Peshawar in Indian Empire
A bronze casket containing a mass of gray powder and four charred bones, said to be relics of Buddha, was discovered by Indian archaeologists beneath a long-forgotten pagoda near Peshawar. The viceroy Earl Minto presented the relics to Buddhist priests from Burma, with plans for safekeeping in Mandalay and a shrine at that city.
