Mrs Lyman J Gage wife of the treasury secretary died at 9 0 tonight at 1715 Massachusetts avenue northwest after a nine week illness. Heart trouble caused her death. She was 58 born in Albany New York married in 1867 in Denver. No children. Burial to be at Rose Hill cemetery near Chicago. Secretary and Mrs Gage active in Washington society and hospitable at their home. The death was reported to President McKinley with care to shield Mrs McKinley from the news.

Secretary Long plans to depart Colorado Springs Monday to join the presidential party. He toured warships and naval barracks in the harbor, receiving honors aboard each vessel.

Washington May 16 Brokers Gurley and Johnson failed and the doors to their office stayed closed today. A formal announcement of their failure followed from the stock exchange rostrum. Richard A Johnson, the junior member, joined the exchange February 2. The firm reportedly carried debts around $200,000, with no New York office.
London reports a Constantinople correspondent of The Paty News stating an arrangement may compel Turkey to yield the postal question by pressuring the Dardanelles with a French mandate. The claim remains unconfirmed and appears to reflect rumor from the period.
