A local rivalry over brick production pits shale against clay in a year long contest. Officials say the industry will be bricked for the rest of the year as teams from both sides rally support and seek a win.
Atlanta debates brick for sidewalks with a clash between shale brick and Chatta hoochee river clay. City officials test bricks on water absorption and wear to decide whether shale or clay bricks best serve new sidewalks as contractors press to begin work.
Midway in Kentucky May 14 The Southern Baptist Convention heard reports on mission work and backed them with cash during sessions at the armory packed with thousands. The Woman's Missionary Union collected 3187.60 for ministers and pledged 8600 for home and foreign missions. Committees announced included foreign board field work and finance with members from Georgia Virginia Louisiana Florida Oklahoma Missouri and Kentucky. Continued on Page Three.
Brigadier General Albert L. Mills arrives in San Francisco from the Philippines and will command the Department of the Gulf with headquarters at Atlanta. General Mills succeeds Brigadier General Hemeny and follows General Potts, who moved to the Philippines. Fort McPherson has been in charge during the interim. Mrs Hooks murdered in Hartshorne with a butcher knife. husband discovers body. no clues or motive yet.
In St Louis a traveling salesman for an Atlanta firm is jailed in Belleville for allegedly shorting $1600. He has been known as husband to two women, one in Atlanta and one in Litchfield, with complicating matrimonial ties unfolding in court. A private discussion with a woman identified as his wife occurred before his preliminary hearing.
In Savannah on May 14 Judge William B Sheppard overruled arrest of judgment and sentenced five men found guilty on German anti trust charges. Spencer P Shotter received three months in jail and a 5000 fine. Edmund Nash 2000 fine. Joan Cooper Mycra three months in jail and 2890 fine. George Mead Hoardman 2000 fine. Carl Moller 4000 fine. Jack Jacksonville 4000 fine. Rhottes and M. Mysre received terms to Chatoum county jail due to prior pleas.

Dedham May 14 an estate tied to the will of the late Dr. Frank W. Shaper former Suffolk County medical examiner is to be left to Harvard University as part of an endowment. The details outline property and assets to support medical research and education.
