Pardon Plea Ties Senator Pritchard Also Man in Murder Case
Governor Aycock weighs a high profile pardon petition linked to Walzhistil Avery Anderson and Edward Ray, involved in a Mitchell County mining dispute that led to manslaughter and murder convictions. The case entwines Senator Jeter C. Pritchard, his wife, and family ties with Anderson, Ray, and political factions across multiple counties. Proponents argue Ray and Anderson acted in self defense amid a mob feud, while opponents stress crime and justice. The petition triggers intense local and statewide debate with appeals for clemency and a national spotlight.
