Washington May 10 Special. The tariff bill remains stuck with little progress as Democrats voice dissatisfaction and Republicans demand extended debate. The Senate faces hundreds of amendments while House action on related measures stalls.

New York May 10 Mr Richard Croker tendered resignation as chairman of the finance committees of Tammany hall and leader position to the executive committee meeting this afternoon. The resignation was accepted 9 to 1. No successor was elected and Croker remains a member of the general committee. Beyond this he has no affiliation with the organization. Behind Closed Doors at Southern Railway and Steamship Association meeting at the Waldorf Winder presiding McGill secretary routine business and a subcommittee of twelve to revise tariffs named.
In Pratt mines area near Birmingham Alabama 250 armed miners held a secret meeting and attacked a stockade housing 1,600 state convicts. Deputies and strikers exchanged gunfire with minimal damage. Authorities fear further attacks as troops remain under arms and additional posses patrol nearby. At Horse Creek one witness was kidnapped to silence him. Authorities warn that an attack on the convicts could occur tonight.
A marble obelisk honoring Washington’s mother at Fredericksburg was unveiled amid ceremonies led by Rev. James P. Smith and Governor O’Ferrall. President Cleveland spoke, praising American motherhood, while Masonry rites followed. Sen. Daniel and Vice President Stevenson addressed, noting Washington’s values and the heroism of his mother.
London May 10 The debate on the budget bill in the commons drew a packed house as Arthur Balfour denounced the measure as class bias. The division showed 808 for and 234 against, with several Liberals abstaining and unionists urging the country’s verdict. Robert Treshie Refi was re-elected to Dumfries without opposition but missed the vote due to seat timing.
The Florida board of trade approves backing the Cotton States and International Exposition in Atlanta. Orange County commissioners in Orlando endorse Florida exhibits and urge federal officials to arrange a government exhibit. Also reports call for unity among Good Templars to enforce prohibition and note a jail escape of J T Jennings, a condemned murderer, who fled on a train disguised as a woman.
