Treasury Closed for Three Weeks After Treasurers Death

Following the death of State Treasurer R. E. Park, Comptroller General W. A. Wright assumes charge under section 07 of the Politics code. No money can be paid out for about twenty days as the transfer and public notice proceed, delaying all treasury disbursements and requiring a new appointment by Governor Smith.

Special Curtis Sanger Blodgett Merritt Spencer Trask firms placed 1,000,000 Georgia Railway and Electric refunding bonds dated Jan 1909 due 1948 at 96 with interest. Part of 20,000,000 authorized issue. Proceeds fund debt retirement and improvements. Net earnings for year ended Dec 31, 1900 reported 407,386. interest charges about 380,000. First quarter 1909 shows gross rise of 61,641 and net rise of 7,128.
