Washington reporters sail for Augusta on Friday arriving at 10 am to attend a guided canal voyage and a grand barbecue. The party travels with escorts from the Commercial Club and will tour local sites before a formal reception and dance.
A report from April notes engraved invitations sent to Confederate generals including Lee, Gordon, Early, and Johnston, with governors and Lee's relay network invited. A grand stand for about a thousand will host attendees, with admittance by card and no charge.
