Washington March 26 The sundry civil appropriation bill was completed by the appropriations committee and reported to the Senate by Mr. Cannon. The bill carries 29 403 874 dollars, with numerous allocations for public buildings, lighthouses, revenue cutters, quarantine stations, and official records. Key line items include 385 000 for lighthouse materials, 695 000 for keepers fuel and rations, 990 000 for revenue cutter service expenses, and 2 917 000 for public printing.

Washington March 23 D F Murphy chief official reporter of the United States Senate died in this city tonight at sixty two after years of nervous ailments following a stroke and collapse He served since 1868 and became chief official reporter in 1873 His reports on the electoral commission and post reconstruction debates were held as accurate and he was noted for integrity and close ties with leading figures of his time.
Four children from Bound Brook New Jersey fell ill after eating wild roots misidentified as horse radish. Besale Van Nest six died from convulsions before help arrived. Anna Van Nest four years old is gravely ill. The other two children Bessie and Willie Matthews and Leon Van Nest are expected to recover.
In Butte Montana on March 2 Mrs Elizabeth A Smith of California niece of Andrew J Davis filed to revoke probate of a forged will claiming lack of jurisdiction and improper admission. Calvin Davis of Sebastopol and Harriet Wood of Springfield joined later, alleging the California claimant seeks blackmail and that her claim rests on a first husband named Abe Davis.
In Dunmore a Monday riot left five hundred Catholics and youths attacking ex priest Ruthven after which four men were shot. William Mink lies near death at Lackawanna hospital. Detec tive Leyshon and a sheriff's posse arrested John Welsh John Lynch Peter O'Hara and Joseph Payton at dawn aided by Coroner Longstreet and District Attorney Jones. The arrests followed warrants sworn by Ruthven bodyguard David G Phillips.
Five men attempted a midnight burglary of Goodfriend Brothers store in Middlesboro Kentucky. Dave Goodfriend woke as they entered and fired, killing one suspect Tom Henderson a Cripple Creek area negro. Two suspects Heiskell and Stewart Knoxville negroes were captured and held for circuit court.
Cramp of William Cramp & Sons said wine would be used for christening the battleship Iowa when launched. Residents of Moulton Iowa urged Governor Drake to have his daughter Mary refuse wine and use water instead. He noted the bottle is supplied by the shipyard and the christening official typically breaks it as directed. He cited temperance petitions but sees no good reason to change the custom despite some dislike of wine spillage.
At Austin the Republican convention adjourned for credentials reports, then resumed and threw out McKinley proxies from forty to fifty counties. The majority report was adopted amid a clash that left Webb Flannigan knocked down. The body adjourned sine die with 621 delegates, one third colored, adopting a sound money and protection platform.
Indianapolis March 2 Being one of General Harrison's most influential worshipers among Indiana politicians stated that Republicans asked Harrison to accept if nominated at St. Louis. Harrison reportedly replied that being drafted and volunteering are two different matters, implying he would accept the nomination if offered.
Champaign county grand jury indicted Governor John P. Altgeld and the University of Illinois board of trustees for failing to display the American flag over the state university building as required by law.
In Boston on March, Judge Grant allowed the foreign will of Benjamin Franklin via petition by Mayor Quincy.
