London drawing rooms and court fashion in a May season

Clippings from a London letter describe two drawing rooms in May with a provincial air yet tied to court pomp. The piece notes costs of court gowns up to 6 000, hairdressers, plumes, and the burdens of social ritual for debutantes and ladies of the court. It also highlights gowns worn by Mme Valigana and Mrs Petre in ornate brocade, lace, and jet beading, illustrating the season's costly pageantry.
