In Huntsville Scott County, Kentucky a mob of about twenty five armed men overpowered jailer Elis A and forced the release of William Murphy who had shot William Bowlin three weeks earlier. Murphy was hanged to a tree near the jail after pleading for mercy and prayer. The incident unfolded quietly with the body later moved back into the jail before dawn.
Raleigh news reports Special information from Edgefield Court House that Express Agent J M Eaves was held up by a highwayman while walking from his office to home. The robber used chloroform to render him unconscious, stole about $90 from a trunk, and fled after a failed pistol challenge. Eaves recovered and pursued but shots had no effect. High winds Sunday thwarted search efforts today with parties finding oars a rudder a boat hull hats and clothing drifting in the bay. Authorities believe all three drowned. All were married and left families.
