In a local council session Aldermen faced repeated delays as Licht Acreemes was held up again by MPClella. The proceedings centered on procedural challenges and stalled motions. Supporters urged quicker votes while opponents pressed for transparency in committee actions.
The city council voted 27 to 2 to approve a package of concessions to the Georgia Railway and Electric Company and the Georgia Railway and Power Company. Alderman McClelland sought a two week delay to renew the fight, while the Aldermanic board concurred with the council apart from him. A lively debate saw Nutting, McClelland, Hall, and Chambers participate as the committee report and ordinance were adopted.
President Taft spent a busy day in Boston during Evacuation Day and St Patrick's Day events. He received an enthusiastic reception from the General Court and crowds in South Boston, where thousands cheered as flags waved and a large procession honored Ireland's patron saint. He spoke to the Massachusetts legislature urging presidential primaries and noted his support for the registration of voters.

New Orleans March 18 The defense in Annie Crawford's sensational murder trial faced confusion as the state produced the brain heart lungs and other organs of Elise Crawford. State experts testified that the sister of the defendant did not die of cerebral hemorrhage as alleged but of morphine poisoning. The organs were exhumed Sunday for autopsy in the graveyard by Dr Charles Duval and assisted by Mrs Groelach O'Hara McGuire and Hummel who broke down and wept.
Fargo dispatch reports Roosevelt supporters concede La Follette gained momentum while Roosevelt remains favored by name recognition. Roosevelt managers issued a nationwide progressive appeal signed by state governors and leaders. Washington notes La Follette and anti Taft factions show division as Kansas delegates lean to Wilson. A Justice Department report alleges Henry Lincoln Johnson registrar of deeds for Georgia violated the 1883 law by soliciting campaign funds in Atlanta during a recent visit. Johnson sought $1,200 from Postmaster McKee to aid the Taft campaign while in the post office. McKee refused. The case could bring fines or imprisonment per the statute.
Washington March 18 Senator McCumber asked what is a reasonable campaign contribution while Senator Culberson read from the 1908 democratic platform backing reasonable contributions. The exchange touched on how gifts were counted and debated, with references to records showing bidders and sums related to campaign support and goods rather than money.
Six detectives failed to find the Allen and Edwards group after searching in hills near Hillsville Virginia. Governor Mann raised rewards to 1600 dollars each for Livia Allen and Sidney Edwards dead or alive. Judge Staples to preside at trials. many believe the Allens may have left the state. A. A. Campbell named to succeed Judge Massie, who was murdered. Dexter Goad, clerk of court, will testify in the proceeding as a key witness.
The Constitution bought nine Overland touring cars for First District prizes in a circulation campaign. Each car costs 1,047.50 dollars, totaling 22,212.00 dollars in prize value. A list of candidates and votes will be printed again tomorrow.
The Independent editor Ben J. Davis faced three federal indictments in Atlanta since 1902 for removing distilled spirits from registered distilleries in Georgia. Separate true bills allege thefts at Stone Mountain and Vinings distilleries, plus a charge of selling without special taxes. The cases span 1902 to 1904, with Davis awaiting trial.
The trial of Mrs. Daisy Grace for shooting her husband was postponed again due to his deteriorating condition. A hearing is now set for March 28 in Judge Ridley's court. Grace's bond release is being sought, with a possible charge change from assault with intent to murder to murder if he dies. Grace has been in solitary confinement at the Tower since her arrest, with only attorney contact.
The district attorney says indictments against Davis have triggered trials at every term but are repeatedly postponed. Attorney Luther Z Rosser cites a crippled limb as reason for continuances. The last term was adjourned and Judge Newman rescheduled Davis’s cases for the current term.
Omaha Neb March 18 Two convicts John Dowd and John Tayl and Roy Blunt died after a running battle with officers as the trio escaped from the state penitentiary at Lincoln. Charles Morley surrendered after a two and a half mile chase. Posse forces from Gretna Sarpy and Lincoln cornered the men near Springfield ten miles from Omaha. An innocent bystander was shot during the pursuit.
