In Nashville on March 1 the Cooper and Sharp jury deliberates on the murder of former U S Senator E W Carmack. Georgia Delegation Split Over Hardwick Bartlett Fight in Washington

In Washington on March 18 the Georgia delegation split as Hardwick received a seat on the disciplining committee while Bartlett faced criticism for backing Champ Clark. Georgia Twins Born by Caesarian Operation

An American medical milestone is reported with twins born alive via Caesarian in Atlanta on January 6, 1900. Dr W B Lingo performed the operation at Hospital Medi cl college for Mrs H Wray of Cedartown with Dr T H Cox assisting. The Boston case followed on Lincoln's birthday at McLean Hospital. Both Atlanta twins were girls and healthy.

Bond Report Urges $800,000 for City Schools and Sewers

A subcommittee on public schools told the bond commission that old school buildings are fire traps and must be replaced. They urged an $800,000 bond issue for schools, with a separate plan to fund sewer extensions and septic tanks after surveys and expert input.

Medal and kiss given to brave young girl

Washington March 18 For her heroism saving the lives of nine children during the General Slocum fire near New York in 1904 Mize Mary McCann was to be presented by Speaker Cannon with a silver life saving medal. Then a 14 year old recovering from scarlet fever she received a kiss from the Iron Duke of American politics at the conclusion of the ceremony.

Burglary at Hook Residence Ends in Fatal Encounter

A burglar broke into Stephen Hook’s home at Piedmont and Eleventh streets twice. He seized a pistol and jewelry on the first visit, then died during a later attempt as Hook and police intervened. The robber escaped through a basement coal chute after the basement door was left open. Police link the suspect to a prior break in via an upstairs window and tree ascent.

Naval aide to Taft fatally injured in park accident

Lieutenant Semmes Read, U. S. naval aide to President Taft, was probably fatally injured in Rock Creek Park when his horse stumbled and fell, crushing his left thigh and causing internal injuries. He rode with several other naval officers at the time of the accident in Washington on March 18.

Kidnapped William Whitie Threatens Ransom Demand

A man abducted James Whitie’s ten year old son from Eastward School in Sharon Pennsylvania. A ransom of ten thousand dollars is demanded for the boy’s return, with a threat the child will be killed if payment is not made. Hundreds of telegrams and calls have gone to police in many cities as investigators work the case. A car was later found at Wenner Ohio, bearing the boy’s jacket. Continued on Page Two.

Ridley Arrested in Newark for Jewelry Larceny

Mrs Frances Ridley of Atlanta was arrested leaving a Pennsylvania train in Newark on a charge of larceny in the case of Andrew Albright Jr. whose wife claims jewels valued at 8000 were stolen. Authorities report recovery of most items, bail set at 5000, with one diamond ring missing.
