Average Length of 8 Feet for Gotham Primary Ballot
New York March 16 Special Pather Knickerbocker’s purse will be depleted to 224000 by the primary election ten days hence. This is the largest sum ever paid for a single day's election work and doubles the expected cost. Ballot printing costs shock the board of elections as five separate primary ballots are required across sixty three districts. In some districts no socialist or independent democrat tickets appear while others lack prohibition tickets. Democrats and Republicans maintain tickets in every district. In the twenty third district the democratic ballot will be fourteen feet long, averaging eight feet. Every ballot is twelve inches wide and printing difficulties force hand pasting for large sheets. Fifty tons of green paper equals about 25 truck loads for democratic ballots. Republicans similarly exceed 25 tons. Other parties produce smaller ballots. Existing ballot boxes cannot hold the twenty third district ballots, prompting carpenters to enlarge entrances. Alteration work continues.
