Bitter Debate Trails Democratic Caucus Rules Fight

Washington March 1 The House Democratic caucus faced a stormy session as 22 Democrats voting with Fitzgerald on the rules fight sparked a bitter debate. A select committee will draft tighter caucus rules to govern future party actions, with report due March 2. Six Georgia representatives who backed the Fitzgerald amendment were absent, defending their vote as not violating any pledge. Continued on Page Two.

Husband and Wife Victims of Nighttime Assault at Boarding House

John Wittles and his wife were attacked in their Bell Street boarding house by a masked intruder with a long bludgeon. Both were left critically injured, with Mrs Wittles conscious and the pair rushed to Grady Hospital. a 12 year old girl woke the house and alerted neighbors as police, aided by county hounds, pursued a trail without a clue.

Mutiny by Cuban Troops Shocks Government

Reports from Havena say an armed uprising against the new Cuban republic broke out last night near Vueltas in Santa Clara province. A sergeant and seven rural guards led revolting peasants, pursued by loyal troops who were ordered to take no prisoners. Government moves against D. R. Wilder

Government action targets D. R. Wilder a Atlanta syrup and confectionery maker for two pura food law violations. Six cases were under investigation by Dr. Wiley. Two will be prosecuted with papers sent to the U S attorney. One case alleges misbranding and the other improper interstate shipment. Wilder says goods were made and branded before the law and glucose was added to prevent fermentation without labeling. He has been indicted.

Diamond burglars target Peachtree area as multiple jewelry thefts reported over a week. Key losses include Mrs Jennie Robinson at 784 Peachtree and a blue enameled pearl and diamond watch, two rings from Mrs HM at 612 Peachtree, and items from C E Sciple at 1 Peachtree. Raids Target Alleged Tigers Case At Local Saloon

Birmingham furniture dealer shot by police officer

Joan McLaas, a well known Birmingham furniture dealer, was fatally shot in his store early this morning. Woop Reynolds, a Birmingham police officer, is named as the shooter. McLaas died six hours after the incident.

Great Southern Music Festival Boxes Sold Out

Public sale for the Great Southern Music Festival ended with every box in the lauditorium sold and most balcony and first floor seats taken. Bank deposits surpassed $11,000 by noon to cover costs for Caruso and other expenses, with continued strong sales expected for each performance. Chaloner Exonerated After Fatal Shot During Domestic Fight

In Charlottenville Virginia John Armstrong Chaloner is cleared of blame after a fatal shot killed John Gillard during a dispute over a wife. Gillard, an Englishman living near Chaloner's Merry Mills estate, assaulted Chaloner's wife with a pair of tongs. Chaloner and Moray intervened. a pistol discharged fatally. A magistrate and jury ruled the death accidental amid a violent struggle.
