Sheriff Nelms Under Fire Over Williams Release
Criticism mounts in Fulton and Clarke counties over Sheriff Nelms who released Williams on bond despite Clarke warrants. Gibson had Williams arrested in Atlanta and sought to bring him to jail Sunday night, but Williams was released to Memphis after Nelms allegedly ignored Clarke warrants. Clarke officials plan further action to recapture Williams, while local citizens decry the release. In other news, John Batiste, a negro tailor, was shot by Derricotte near the Sea Board Air Line depot. Batiste died, and Derricotte faces murder charges as liquor fueled the incident.
