Bank of Cordele receivership sparks sensational local tale
In Cordele Georgia a petition to wind up the First National Bank of Cordele is filed by the Bank of Stewart County. Judge Speer appoints Iverson L. Harris as temporary receiver as complex motives and a widow’s past union with Dr. George W. Marvin surface, amid accused transfers and large debts. The case blends banking collapse with a dramatic late 19th century scandal.
