In Frankfort on March 11 a tense display followed the unseating of Kaufman. A mob gathered at the statehouse with pistols as Republicans and Democrats clashed, chairs were toppled, and the joint session adjourned after a contested vote on seating James and Walton.

In Hazleton Pennsylvania on March 11 an engine boiler exploded between Gum Run and Derringer on the Delaware, Lackawanna and Schuylkill line. Four crew members were killed: engineer John Chambers, fireman Jonas Stewart, brakeman Frank O Donnell, and conductor Michael Boyle. William Timony was severely injured and William Tully aided him. The blast left the engine missing and cars twisted, with the cause not yet known.

Washington March 11 The house committee on naval affairs debates increasing the navy with proposals for six battleships and fifteen torpedo boats or four battleships and twenty to thirty torpedo boats. The bill previews large appropriations for ordnance, ships, magazines, and maintenance including repairs for the Hartford and other vessels, while outlining volume of specific line items.
The principal epgaches Messrs Quigg Cummings and Belknap supported the amendment while Messrs Loud Ne Millin Bingham and Kyle opposed it. The amendment passed 116 to 61. Bromwell moved to strike out New York and Washington to Atlanta and New Orleans, but the motion failed. Daniels of New York gave notice of a future move on the Aldrich and Robbins contest in Alabama. House adjourned at 4.00.
Pittsburg March 1 James J Corbett today signed the articles of agreement forwarded by the National Sporting Club of London to fight Robert J Fitzsimmons before that organization next June for a purse of 10000 the winner to take all the money Each man is allowed 300 for expenses provide his own gloves and fight under the Marquis of Queensbury rules The articles will now go to Fitzsimmons for his signature.

A Dupont seat dispute looms, while Hear opens debate on postponing conference reports. A joint resolution seeks a full inquiry into Cuban warfare and casualties with a $10,000 fund.
In Germantown Ohio a crude robbery attempt at First National Bank failed after attackers used plant powder to blast the vault door. The blast wrecked the bank room and alarmed residents as $70,010 in cash and securities lay inside the vault. escape details remain unknown.
Albany March 1 the Lexow greater New York bill passed the senate this afternoon by a vote of thirty two to eight the bill was not amended and now goes to the assembly for concurrence for passage to final approval in Albany with no changes reported.
A major blaze in Mobile on March 11 destroyed the Wobie and Ohio Railroad Company fertilizer warehouse and upper wharf cotton shed, burning 368 bales awaiting shipment to Liverpool. The fire forced removal of a British steamship loaded with powder and petroleum. minor damage to the hall and wharf, with losses around 21,000 for buildings and wharf and 9,000 for cotton, covered by policies.
Governor Athinson and his son left with the delegation to witness the Indiana launch at Port Royal. He will not announce his candidacy for governor until returning home. He may bow to party wishes and run again, having declined a $3000 yearly business offer.

J Crandall former president of the First National Bank of Johnson City was today sentenced to eight years in the United States penitentiary at Brooklyn by Judge C E Clark Crandall pleaded guilty to wrecking the bank which liquidated a year ago and asked mercy of the court during the third day of the trial in Knoxville Tennessee.
Rome dispatch reports the Italian cabinet will release prisoners held for participating in the 1893 Bielly socialist riots. Among those freed is Signor Defelice, once a chamber of deputies member whose election was annulled due to his conviction.

Columbus reports ex-senator Abbott of Morgan City found guilty of bribery in a legislative case connected to a pharmacy bill. Abbott sponsored a bill to repeal a requirement for pharmacists to pass exams and was convicted of taking bribes from druggists to withdraw the measure.
The monitor Monadnock returns from a sea trial near San Francisco on March 1. She made eleven and three quarter knots and behaved admirably. Commander Bryades called the vessel a perfect type of its class and a pride of the navy, with machinery working without a hitch and a good sea trip.

The British steamer Lord O Neill, reported at Dublin from Baltimore, spoke February 24. In lat 38 north long 71 west the American schooner Melvin, from Beaufort February 24 for Philadelphia, had its masts carried away and signaled for help. Lord O Neill offered to take six aboard, but Captain Gaskill refused to abandon his vessel as it sailed on. The Queen arrived in Nice this afternoon.
A Washington dispatch reports General Quesada citing Manuel de la Cruz manuscripts detailing Weyler's alleged crimes during 1868 to 1878 in Cuba. The notes accuse Weyler of atrocities including forcing women to undress at Guatnero and pressuring Senorita Romero to sacrifice her honor to black soldiers of the fourth company.

Columbus Ga March 11 Special The report from Washington says Captain W A Little of Columbus had been or would be named to succeed Judge John I Hall as attorney general of the interior department. Little was seen and he emphatically said he had received no notice of any appointment and declined to discuss the matter.
