They were sworn at the Quirinal and parliament slated to convene March 16. King Humbert expressed confidence that difficulties would be overcome and Italians would gain glory from the war with Abyssinia.
London reports that General Baratieri explains Italy’s army in Africa faced dwindling supplies as Abyssinians infested the roads. Retreat would have invited strong attacks, so leaders chose to attack. Baldissere assured troops would be provided to push the campaign toward a successful end. Paris notes French press views lean toward closer Italian ties with Germany and Austria, with more courteous relations with France.
Washington dispatch reports Judge John I Hall resigning as assistant attorney general to become general attorney for the Georgia Southern and Florida railroad, with expected charge April 16. His successor will be named soon as internal department duties continue.

In Parliament Joseph Chamberlain quoted a telegram from February 19 reporting serious riots on St Kitts with houses burned and two rioters shot. A later telegram said conditions had quieted but warned that presence of troops could prevent recurrence.
London March 10 Jameson and the officers in the Transvaal raid were arraigned at Bow Street with renewed charges Major Coventry and Captain Gosling added. Aristocrats and MPs filled the court as Sir Richard Webster led the prosecution detailing the expedition plans and the telegraph cutting. Sergeant Hay testified that troops were told they fought for British supremacy though many refused to join. The hearing adjourned for a week. defendants appeared in stylish attire and the court remained orderly with no cheers.
London March 10 The anti Par pol leaders of the Irish National parliamentary party held their first meeting since John Dillon became leader. Dillon presided with T M Healy and Justin McCarthy present. The gathering was peaceful and focused on a Commons strategy for Irish elections. An agreement on a plan was reached.
London report states no truth to arrest rumors about Cecil Rhodes and no authorities plan the move. London Parliament asked about his detainment. secretary of state for the colonies, Joseph Chamberlain, denied the claim. The rumor prompted a drop in South African mining stocks at the London exchange. In Richmond, the United Confederate Veterans fixed a contract for a June auditorium meeting.
Ocala Florida March 10 Colonel W H Morgan retired U S Army and cousin of J Pierpont Morgan died suddenly this morning. He came here eight years ago invested in orange groves but the freeze last winter wiped out the holdings. A physician prescribed for him yesterday and a servant found him dead after the doctor left. Lincoln Nebraska March 10 General John M Thayer is dying at his home and his end is expected at any moment after taking charge of the McKinley campaign a few weeks ago. He is about seventy and has received many honors in the state.
