City plans new water department machine shop in Atlanta
Plans for a two story water department machine shop were accepted and the contract let to W W McAfee for 120. The $7200 facility at Kimball Street and Hemp Hill Avenue will house a foundry and patent shop with offices in front and will produce meter boxes and castings for the department. The project aims to save money by using scrap iron and in house labor, with completion expected within months. Colonel Woodward hails the project as a major city investment and anticipates casting work for other departments. The current city hall basement shop is overcrowded and inadequate for daily needs.
