Bellefonte Pa March siege of the Ettlinger residence ended when the desperado William Ettlinger, holed up with his wife and two children, set fire to his house after mortally wounding Constable Barnes and firing on deputies. He killed himself as flames spread, leaving his wife a prisoner and two children rescued. The siege drew 2000 armed citizens and a sheriff’s force, with the house finally consumed by fire.
