Railroads Struggle Through Flooded Routes to Atlanta
Railway service badly deranged as trains on the Southern and Western lines ran via detours from Toccoa to Elberton Athens and Lula to reach Atlanta. Major lines south of the city, including the Atlanta and West Point and Seaboard Air Line, faced broken bridges and washed-out tracks. Local trains operated slowly, crews worked in water to keep right of way intact, and some services aimed to resume with repairs today or tomorrow.
