Governor Clifford Walker is sworn in today with the inaugural ceremony to be broadcast by WGM. The inaugural speech will open service as transmission begins at 10 30 A M.
The Atlanta Constitution's WGM radiophone will relay Georgia legislature sessions from the state capitol with the inaugural address of Governor Clifford Walker. The staged relay marks the opening of a daily radio service, bringing lawmakers to Georgia listeners in real time, with a complex setup ensuring no word is missed.
Anniston report says Lieutenant James C. Buehner was shot and killed at Camp McClellan. His wife is jailed in Calhoun County on the incident with authorities investigating the shooting and motive.
Four Railway Audit and Inspection investigators faced state court after being bound over by Recorder George M Johnson for operating a business without a license. One witness, TH. BR. Fos of the Scoville hotel, forfeited a $100 bond for appearance in police court on a separate disorderly conduct charge. Fos is being sought by police. Fort Smith Ark June 29 Oscar Sine was found not guilty of murder in the death of Carmen Hammett, shot at the home of Sine's wife from whom he had separated. The circuit court jury returned an acquittal after three hours of deliberation.
City street committee approved extending Broad street from Mitchell to Whitehall to create a four block link to the viaduct. A special taxing zone will assess property owners to cover damages from the two ramp approaches, with 60 percent of affected owners signaling readiness to deed land.
Paris dispatch reports Premier Poincare urged the French senate to vote 307 million francs for continued occupation of the Ruhr. He warned Germany faces a grave financial crisis and vowed not to modify essential demands, saying France will not fall for further traps. Germany’s hopes for intervention are rejected as counterproductive.
Claude Ashburn, four, of 1140 Simpson Street, died after being struck on Simpson Street by a speeding car that did not stop. Hugh Fleming, seven, of 27% South Ashby Street, is seriously injured at Grady Hospital after stepping back to retrieve a ball when struck. Four occupants, J P Godfrey operating the car, Arnold Barham, Mary Carlton and Hattie Dumas, were arrested and held without bond in Falton County Tower as investigators pursue the case. The driver, C F Carlisle of 166 Pine Street, stopped and gave aid.
Capetown June 28 opponents of Premier Jan Smuts urge a Monroe Doctrine for South Africa, arguing Africa's troubles stem from European entanglements. They note Smuts supports close Britain ties and European issues, and say he will face a tough election to maintain current policies.
The Stone Mountain Confederate Memorial Association executive committee announced the selection of five Georgia Confederate generals to be carved on Stone Mountain. The picks are Lt-Gen John B Gordon Major P L M Young Maj-Gen Ambrose Wright Brig-Gen Thomas R R Cobb and Brig-Gen H T Benning. Founders Roll subscriptions of 1000 each were also announced by Goodloe H Yancey Jr and B Earle Yancey in memory of their grandfather William I Yancey.
Dr Charles F Brooks secretary of the American Meteorological Society explains the rainbow. He notes its seven concentric bands of color, primary and secondary bows, and the rare third bow. Differences in band width and purity arise from refraction and reflection in raindrops.
