Ex Secretary Herbert urged Alabama audience to push for independence from party constraints and embrace free thought. He warned about growing party revolt among Alabama papers, pressed for honest elections and broader civic independence to counter insular and tariff challenges.
New Yorkers faced the hottest day of the year with official readings near 92 to 94 and street thermometers hitting around 100. Eight deaths and fifty prostrations were reported in Greater New York and Jersey area by midnight, while the heat also sent three deaths in Pittsburgh and a 103 degree high in St Joseph and Lincoln.

Henry Marquand and Co included Henry Marguland and Frank B Poor. Crank 8 built the assignee for Marquand & Co is VP and general counsel of Pittsburg Shawnut and Northern.
Peter Price, a Black man from Panther, West Virginia, cornered after allegedly insulting a woman, fought off a pursuing mob with knives in a saloon rear room at Sager. London June 28 a royal proclamation announcing King Edward's June coronation was read at St James Palace amid ceremonial pageantry. Heralds in ornate attire, trumpeters, and state regalia marked the occasion as crowds gathered to hear the proclamation. The royal procession and carriage display followed the reading as the event proceeded toward Temple Bar and the Royal Exchange.
Seven occupants of a residence on the Baltimore and Ohio near Brothers Station were bound and gagged by six masked men in June. The intruders rifled the home, taking $000 in cash and jewelry worth about twice that amount. Jacob L White, his wife and daughter were tortured with heated matches and needle lacerations as the robbers probed for more valuables. They were abandoned and helpless for hours until niece Miss Sidney Macke freed herself and summoned help. White, a millionaire oil operator, and the victims are reported not in serious condition.
Tennessee officers who seized Hugh Mathews, a Missouri machinist, and J Whin, chief assistant, in Kansas City were brought to Springfield under arrest. Washington June 28 The president denied clemency for ex District Attorney Fl lery P Ingham and ex-Assistant District Attorney Harvey Newitt convicted in the Jacobs counterfeiting cases in Pennsylvania. The two served two years of a two and a half year sentence after petitions for executive clemency failed to gain support from trial and district attorneys. The attorney general reviewed the facts at the president's request amid public interest.
