Drowning Disaster at Niagara River Excursion Dock
A Buffalo crowd of about 250 on a Grand Island Niagara River dock fell into twelve feet of water when the dock heaved and sank after the Henry Koerber steamer moved in. Between fifteen and twenty drowned, at least seven bodies recovered by midnight, with several injured and many rescued by rowboats and lifeboats. Victims include Mrs McKee, two of her children, Mrs Richmeyer and son, Cecilia Kelly, Mrs Heilstrom and child, Irene Thomas, Mrs Westfall, and Mrs Hyde. The Koerber returned to Buffalo with about 200 passengers.
