Strange Experience of a Minister's Daughter and Separation
Albany June 16 Henry George Albanian husband of Hattie Clapham daughter of Rev iliam Clapham of the city deserted by conversion to Shaker celibacy. After separations and returns he kept her among Shaker sisters. A replevin suit for furniture failed as George did not appear. Mrs. George sought aid from her father and was withdrawn from Watervliet and returned home. The case reveals coercive pressure and mixed loyalties amid Shaker beliefs.
