In Chicago on June 20 Colonel Roosevelt issued a statement outlining two possible routes. He would accept if the convention majority nominates him as the real Republican party candidate. If a faction pushes a progressive line, he would accept that endorsement and appeal to honest citizens to fight the campaign to the end, even without electoral votes.
William Jennings Bryan objected to Alton B. Parker as temporary Democratic national convention chairman. Reporters at the Chicago Republican convention noted Parker’s selection, while some committee members criticized the ParkerBryan dynamic. Parker’s status remained unresolved as debate continued amid divisions.

Roosevelt, in Chicago with advisers and delegates, outlined his position in the GOP nomination struggle and said he would continue the fight on principle even if it means no electoral votes. He met with two delegates from each supporting state as leaders analyzed next steps.

Mrs Grace Harmon Reames and her son Orlando, last seen June 7 in Norcross Georgia, are believed to be in Atlanta with a hotel clerk J Roegers. Dr J W Reames seeks custody and has obtained a detention warrant as detectives renewed efforts and a $25 reward are publicized.
Chicago June 20 Perpetuation of the steam roller as the direct primary plan for electing national committee members was a pair of radical but conflicting changes adopted by the rules committee of the convention. Prophecy forecasts generally fair weather in Georgia, with little change in temperature for Friday and Saturday. Local reports show low temperatures near 60 and higher readings around 70s, with mean temperatures around the mid teens in some areas. Recorded rainfall in the past 24 hours and excess rainfall since January 1 are noted.
Evelyn Thaw’s testimony interrupted the Harry K Thaw trial when Susan Merrill, who ran Thaw’s NY theatrical district rooms, testified that Thaw whipped at least two girls on multiple occasions and once beat two nearly senseless. Merrill said Thaw threatened to kill her if she spoke. She also revealed a letter urging Thaw to “be smart” as a man with millions opposed him. Thaw’s attorney pressed that the witness misidentified the colonel figure amid hints of payments for witness cooperation.

Roosevelt declined a firm timetable saying there must be a popular demand and he would run if delegates wished him.
