At a Chicago rally Roosevelt denounced fraudulently seated delegates and warned that any convention action based on their votes would not bind the Republican Party. He called out “sure thing” bosses and urged fair play as thousands cheered.
Three affidavits from Mississippi delegates allege Roosevelt forces paid bribes to secure Taft delegates. Rev James W Shumpert presiding elder and D W Sherred, both Mississippi, claim Charles Banks offered money to switch votes to Roosevelt. Buckley denied, stating he was offered 300 to 400 dollars.
Julia Clark, one of the United States' three licensed woman aviators, was killed in Springfield when a wing tip struck a tree during a low altitude spin at the fairgrounds. Officials question control, decision, and prior Milwaukee restrictions on practice.
Twenty six of Georgia's twenty eight delegates to the national convention, including all negroes, vote for Taft after a heated caucus.
