Volcano Belches and Death Drop on the Sightseers

Mount Lassen near Redding California erupted with violent fire and a deadly rock shower. Lansing Graham of Volta California was killed when a rock crushed him nearly in two as a party near the crater fled, with several injured or unaccounted. Smoke and ash blanketed the peak, fires started in nearby towns, and two new craters opened as the seventh eruption since May 30.

Sudden Shower Cools Sweltering Atlanta Night

A hard shower drenched Atlanta last night easing a blistering Sunday. From 7:30 to around 8, steady rain cooled the city, washing away heat and giving pedestrians shelter indoors. The storm followed a forecasted rain miss and brought relief after a day of high temperatures and oppressive humidity. A brief drizzle near midnight extended the cooler air into the night.

Lexington June 14 marks the start of Washington and Lee university commencement week with baccalaureate services by Rev John W Vander Meulen of Louisville. Everettte Found Dead on Train at Griffin

Samuel Adrian Everette, a 55 year old consulting railroad engineer of Hernando, was found dead on the Central of Georgia train near Griffin. A nearly empty bottle smelling like chloroform lay beside him, a physician declaring death about ten minutes prior. No suicide note. relatives in Georgia and Hernando say no known reason. He carried letters from notable figures including John D. Rockefeller Jr., William Sulzer, and H. Stephens, with a ticket from Atlanta to Macon.

Banana provokes fatal street gun battle in Milner

Two men, Dr Homer Maddox and Harry Barry, are dead after a morning shootout in Milner following an argument over a banana at Barry Brothers store. Robert Barry, accused of Maddox’s murder, is jailed in Zebulon. Witnesses say Maddox refused aid to the wounded Barry, then fired on him as Barry’s brother urged care. The elder Barry reportedly urged retaliation after Maddox jokingly refused to acknowledge the item as a “small matter.”

Beer Thirst Costs Men on Marietta Street

Two visitors from Georgia sought beer near Marietta Street but were guided to an alley by a Black man. The guide demanded money, and as Hawling produced change, two more attackers emerged brandishing guns. Hawring fought back, losing about $5 and a revolver. Irby escaped. Five Men Die in Gas Explosion in Columbus Trench

A gas blast in a trench where laborers were laying a main killed five men, four foreigners among them, and injured ten others, likely fatally for several. The accident, blamed on a cap joint blowing off and ignited gas, left five bruised men recovering, per physicians.

Macon Man Drowned at Idgswood Lake in Summer Casualty

W C Parkhurst a 45 year old Macon man drowned while swimming at Idgswood lake in a Macon park today. He disappeared under water about 15 feet from shore and was recovered five minutes later. Coroner Young said heart failure may have caused the death. Mrs Parkhurst and their small daughter witnessed the sinking. It is the first drowning of the current summer as hundreds swim daily in nearby areas.

Attempted Lynching of Black Man After Insult Incident

A mob of about two hundred white men pursued and threatened to lynch a Black man identified as Arthur Ross after he allegedly insulted Miss Bessie Jenkins near her home at the corner of Strong Street and West North Avenue. Police intervened, detaining the suspect to prevent vigilante violence. Black residents aided in the pursuit and concealment of the man until authorities arrived.
