Roosevelts plan to enter the Republican convention arena stirs tense reactions in Chicago. Taft backers claim 594 delegates sufficient for nomination, while Roosevelt supporters allege a majority without figures. In Perth Amboy New Jersey on June 14 a mob of about 2000 strikers attacked the American Smelting and Refining Company plant and nearby Barber Asphalt Works as 2000 deputy sheriffs armed with searchlights and clubs held the line. At least three were killed and seven injured in the day of rioting with shots fired, arrests made, and scattered disturbances at several locations. The conflict ended with a preliminary tilt in favor of authorities while talks at the Atlantic Terra Cotta plant yielded a later concession.
Mrs Louis Lindorf, 43, was arrested in Chicago on June 14 pending investigation into the deaths of her five family members including three children and two husbands. An insured total of 10 650 dollars is cited. Roomer Henry Ruby also held for questioning as viscera tests prompt police inquiry. Additional deaths linked to the case include Julius Graunke, Frieda Graunke, and Alma Graunke, all insured, with dates ranging 1905 to 1911.

Panel evidence tied Archbald to calm bank deals with railroads, including a $9,000 payoff for aiding a culm bank, with Williams acting as Archbald’s intermediary.
