Linotype men and a bindery girl are reported among those affected as a disastrous Montreal fire rips through the Herald printing plant. The blaze destroyed the building’s pressroom and caused an awful death, with workers scrambling to escape the flames. The incident prompts an inquiry into fire safety at the facility.
A sprinkler tank failure at The Herald building in Montreal on June 12 caused a 25 ton water collapse into the basement. Around 30 people died as fire followed, with heroic rescues by firemen and a dramatic act by a girl helping peers to safety. Father Martin administered rites to the semi conscious. Fred Vidal, a stereotyper, suffered multiple injuries before rescue.
Jim Westbrook who reappeared on April 4 in a case charging Daniel with shooting him was arrested near West Point and brought to Atlanta by Detective J. R Black. Westbrook offers no direct implicating statements but cites threats the night before his hearing. Daniel, who ran a Decatur Street near beer saloon, was previously charged with multiple shootings.

A special committee appointed by the Georgia General Assembly met at the state capitol in Atlanta to study the advisability of rearranging the state judicial circuits. Four judges presented views including W D Ellis, Bennett Conyers, John Miller, and A W Fite. The committee plans further hearings and will hear additional judges. The panel includes Senators Julian McCurry and E S Griffeth, Representatives H Lewis, J S Burch, and R H Baler.
New York June 13 57 of 70 cars in the Atlanta Journal New York Herald good roads tour entered city hall park on schedule this afternoon. The tour ended at Herald Square after a 1100 mile run. Eight cars still on the road expected to finish. Mayor Gaynor hosted stops at St George Staten Island and Herald Square noting progress and imagining future unity of regions.
Champ Clark replies to Georgia Democrat Thomas Bell denying any connection between his push to revise House rules and tariff legislation. He argues the rules battle and tariff reform were separate, cites records, and defends his statements against critics including Speaker Cannon. Bell’s letter asked for clarification on the alleged tie to the Payne Aldrich bill.
Swainsboro officials say state chemist in Atlanta found large amount of poison in the stomach of Flanders, who died June 4. Husband left $5,000 in property and $6,000 life policy to his widow. Dr. W J McNaughton, his physician, is sought as investigation targets the doctor who attended the case.
The annual meeting of the Georgia Game and Fish Protective Association will be held in Atlanta on June 21. Officers for the ensuing year will be elected and measures proposed for consideration to aid in game protection. Sportsmen of Georgia are urged to attend.
Miss Evelyn Jones of Jacksonville Fla clung to a second story window at the Dragon Hotel after an alleged assault by owner L. D. Crews and joint proprietor Harry Cutter. A passerby rescued her from the ledge as Crews and Cutter deny the tale, claiming she caused a disturbance and attempted to leap. Both proprietors were fined $50 and costs. Nearby Roanoke river flooding noted with widespread lowland inundation.
Charles K. Hamilton flew from Governor's Island to Philadelphia in 1 hour 51 minutes covering 58 miles and returned with only brief stops. He delivered letters, broke American records for distance and duration, and resumed flight after a propeller outage. The feat included a second mishap in the Jersey swamps but finished within 5 hours total.

Misa Leona Berl aged 18 a blonde vaudeville dancer known as the Harl Sisters with Grace fought Wall the theater manager and his three sons after a program in the entrance last night at 8:30. The manager lost his glasses and hands were bleeding. sisters were taken to police headquarters on disorderly conduct charges and later released on copies of charges with a court appearance set for Tuskday afternoon. Wall claimed he owed them 38 on sales and alleged a previous settlement, while the sisters provided conflicting statements.
