Cotton Standards Meeting Under Way In Washington

In Washington on June 11 a conference to shape adjustments under the new cotton standards act held two executive sessions at the Department of Agriculture without reaching a firm decision. Some 50 leading cotton men from the United States and Europe attended, including officials from major exchanges in New York, New Orleans, Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah, Houston and Dallas. Secretary Wallace outlined the law and said U S standards may be defined in terms of foreign equivalents for this year, with shipments to meet official standards for the August 1 start. The British delegation from the Liverpool Cotton Association presented its views, and a formal reply from American sides was prepared for afternoon consideration. Final determination is expected after tomorrow’s sessions.
