Washington June 10 The Senate adopted by 37 to 24 the conference report on the army appropriation bill containing anti administration provisions. One would bar General Leonard Wood from office by forcing officers acting as chief of staff after March 4 to have ten years in line below brigadier general. Beach Sleuth Sued by Sleuth
The detective who secured evidence against Beauty Beach, the New York and Aiken millionaire, is sued for 19006 damages in Fulton superior court by S. M. Pearson, another detective. Pearson says M. C. Baughn had him arrested on suspicion of theft and subjected him to coercive questioning at the Atlanta police station. Baughn and City Detective Harper allegedly offered release only if Pearson revealed his line of work. The case, tied to the 1910 arrest of Pearson, was continued until this morning for a decision.

House Stands For Reciprocity Debate Delays Adjournment
Washington reports the House rejected a Senate amendment to the metal tariff revision bill by 144 to 101, preserving the Canadian reciprocity pact and setting a universal print paper duty of $2 a ton. The chamber adopted two Senate amendments lowering duties on pig iron and certain alloys, with conference to follow. Majority Leader Underwood warned revenue loss of about $300,000 from the pig iron cuts would be offset by the excise tax bill. The dispute over reciprocity complicates adjournment plans, signaling a likely prolonged deadlock between the two houses. In the Tea Room reminiscence note hints at a quirky aside about a pony at the Hippodrome.
