Woolen tariff debate in senate features Dolliver humor

In Washington on June 8 the woolen schedule debate in the senate showcased Senator Dolliver as the central figure. He proposed amendments to push a protective tariff, while Senator Smoot and Warren defended the finance committee's Woolen Schedule. A lecture by Mr. Carter explained wool production and wool grades, and a colloquy between Dolliver and Warren drew amusement as they debated duty on cloth value. The day ended with a 5:30 p.m. adjournment amid protests by Senator Clay and a dispute over night sessions.
