Volcanic ash fell thickly on Cordova Alaska as a loud detonation and heavy blasts were heard all night. Geologists in Seattle noted audible sounds suggest a nearby active volcano possibly on the Kenai peninsula with four minor shocks recorded by the University of Washington selamograph.

Stone, sergeant at arms of the Republican national convention, appealed to Mayor Harrison for police protection at tomorrow's committee session at the Coliseum amid reports that Roosevelt leaders planned to intimidate the committee during contest hearings. Other committee members affirmed hearing such reports and warned against any outside disruption, promising firm action if force or demonstrations occur.
